Use a calculator to test candidate prescriptions, not to replace clinical judgment. Confirm delivered dose and adjust against the patient’s volume status, blood pressure, phosphorus, potassium, bicarbonate, symptoms, and residual kidney function.

A Safe Workflow
- Start with the patient’s modality, residual kidney function, volume needs, access, and goals.
- Use the current manufacturer tool or program calculator to model a candidate prescription.
- Reconcile the candidate with approved local policy and enter a patient-specific signed order.
- Verify delivery with treatment logs, adequacy testing, laboratory trends, symptoms, and access performance.
- Escalate contamination, suspected peritonitis, access failure, or machine safety events immediately through the patient’s home-dialysis program rather than a web resource.
